FIRE AND EXPLOSION INVESTIGATION
Fire Investigation is the intensive study of fire and its effects and is often done to determine the origin of a fire and the cause of a fire. Fire investigation may be done to assess responsibility, both from a criminal and civil perspective.
Fire Origin is the point, location or area where a fire has begun. It is generally best to determine the fire origin before determining cause. This is because many potential causes may exist in a particular building or vehicle but it is only those causes located in the area of origin which need to be considered.
Fire Cause is the circumstances or agencies which have brought together the elements necessary for a fire to start. The are four different types of fire causes:
- Accidental
- Natural
- Incendiary
- Unknown.
Assess Responsibility: the factors and reasons which brought together the elements necessary for a fire need to be evaluated when assessing responsibility.
Explosion investigation involves the systematic determination of the cause for an explosion. For an explosion to occur there must be fuel, oxygen and an ignition source, and they must be in the proper proportions. There is a very definite science to investigating explosions and experience really counts here. The site of the explosion must be carefully documented and excavated to locate the source of the fuel and possible ignition sources.
Fire Engineering can be divided broadly into the following 13 subject areas:
1. Fire Science (Fire Chemistry)
2. Fire Science (Fire Dynamics)
3. Fire Protection Engineering (Active)
4. Fire Protection Engineering (Passive)
5. Smoke Control
6. Interaction between Fire and People (including Means of Escape)
7. Fireground Operations
8. Fire Risk Assessment and Measurement (including Fire Insurance)
9. Fire Safety of Consumer Items and Energy Sources
10. Fire Safety Design, Management and/or Audit of Buildings
11. Fire Safety Design, Management and/or Audit of Industrial Processes
12. Fire Safety Design, Management and/or Audit of Transport Activities
13. Fire Safety Design, Management and/or Audit of Cities and Communities

Informationen
